Leigh Sterling Elected to Healtheway Board of Directors

April 15, 2014

etHIN Director to Help Guide Ongoing Development of National Health Information Network

KNOXVILLE, TN – April 15, 2014 – The East Tennessee Health Information Network (etHIN) announced that Executive Director Leigh Sterling has been elected to serve on the Board of Healtheway, Inc., the organization charged with operational support of the nationwide eHealth Exchange. Sterling joins healthcare leaders from across the United States in the endeavor to empower modern healthcare through secure, nationwide, electronic information exchange.

The eHealth Exchange, formerly known as the Nationwide Health Information Network Exchange, is a group of organizations operating together to improve patient care, streamline disability benefit claims, and improve population health.

The Exchange solves many of the challenges health organizations face in setting up secure, online data exchange with other groups. Among other benefits, the eHealth Exchange provides a standardized and cost-effective way to securely share clinical information, complements state and regional health information organization efforts to connect their communities, and expedites processing of disability claims and payment of benefits to the disabled.

“I’m honored to be chosen to serve on Healtheway’s Board, and look forward to working with their world-class leadership in building solutions to advance our healthcare technology,” said Sterling. “The core idea behind etHIN and Healtheway is the same: to improve patient outcomes by ensuring healthcare providers can access up-to-date patient information at the point of care. We’re rapidly moving toward accomplishing that goal at both a regional and national level, and Healtheway is one of the main drivers of that success.”
