Social Determinants Tab Enhances Clinical Viewer Data
etHIN recently announced the launch of a new Social Determinants tab within the Clinical Viewer, bringing critical context to patient care by integrating Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) data directly into clinical workflows.
What’s New?
The Social Determinants tab is now live and currently populated with SDOH Assessments. These assessments offer valuable insights into factors that influence health outcomes beyond clinical settings, such as housing stability, food access, transportation, and social support.
Data in Action
etHIN is currently receiving SDOH Assessments from the Tennessee Community Resource Network (TCRN), a key partner in advancing whole-person care across the state. Additional participants have expressed interest in contributing SDOH data as well, signaling growing momentum toward a more connected and equitable health information ecosystem.
Why It Matters
Understanding a patient’s social context is essential for delivering whole-person care. By reviewing SDOH data alongside clinical information, providers can better identify barriers to health, coordinate appropriate services, and support improved outcomes, especially for vulnerable populations.
What’s Next?
etHIN plans to expand the tab with additional SDOH data types in future updates, including community resource referrals, care coordination notes, and other relevant data.
How to Access
The Social Determinants tab is available to authorized users within the Clinical Viewer. Simply navigate to the patient record and select the Social Determinants tab to explore available SDOH Assessments.
etHIN is a trusted, neutral convener of diverse data types across the health and community continuum, supporting healthcare providers, community organizations, behavioral health professionals, and public health partners with tools and data that promote equity, insight, and actionable care.
